Imajize Now Offers 360 Degree Product Imaging Service

While we love making 360 degree photography turntables for our customer, some simply prefer to have a pro shoot their product for them. And that's the moving force behind our decision to "launch" a dedicated 360 product photography service. I'm careful to put the word launch in quotes because to be honest, this specialty 360 product photography studio has been around since 2010. Its photographer is me–Michael Allen–the Co-Founder of Imajize. Truth be told, I started the product photography studio first. Imajize was created because my studio needed a damn good 360 viewer.

The day has finally come. Imajize ate up my 360 product photography studio, so now it's (thankfully) all under one roof for new customers. This put Imajize in a unique position, as it is the only company that makes all three things in-house:

1. A fully hosted 360 viewer for displaying your product in 360 degrees.

2. A motorized 360 photography turntable.

3. A dedicated 360 degree product photography service.

The key thing to understand is that we do all three of these things in-house. We code our 360 viewer from scratch. We make every Spin Ninja by hand in-house (in fact, as of the date of this blog post, I make them by hand). Lastly, all of the 360 degree images our product photography studio produces are done in-house by either me or our staff. We love being at the core of the technology, as this has always been our approach towards making professional grade 360 photography equipment and 360 viewer software.

We're simply obsessed with quality.

So what next? Now that we have everything under one roof and brand, we are going to see an exciting story of what happens when a photography studio and tech company partner together to expand the true technical limits of 360 degree product photography.

Alienbees B800: The perfect strobe unit for 360 product photography

We finally did it. We wore out one of our strobe flash units for our 360 product photography studio. Every product we photograph gets between 20 and 36 individual shots. That's a lot of strobe firing! On top of that, the shots are done in rapid fire, so we are truly pushing our AlienBee strobes to the limit.

And guess what? After 6 full years of continuous use, we finally wore out one of our B800s. Within a few days we had our replacement shipped to our studio at Imajize headquarters. After unpacking it I thought, "Hey, why not shoot a 360 view of this?"

Within about 5 minutes I had the images shot, edited and uploaded into the Imajize 360 viewer. Here's how it turned out:

360º View Photo Shoot - Lezyne

360º View Photo Shoot - Lezyne

This time we did some 360 product photography of a really fancy LED bicycle light made by a local company called Lezyne. For the photo shoot we had to whip out a fairly elaborate lighting setup, but it led to some slick highlights that help accentuate the products slick metallic finish. Well worth the effort! It turned out great! Below you'll find a video dealing with every aspect of the photo shoot. We also threw in a surprise. We captured the 360 degree images with our USA-made 360 photography turntable – the Spin Ninja! This is the first time I've presented it myself in front of a camera, so I suppose we can consider this a historical event, albeit a small one. With that said, we hope you enjoy the video!

Free Photo Shoot Friday: SculptureSoap.com

Free Photo Shoot Friday: SculptureSoap.com

This week we shot a 360 view of a bar of soap. But it’s not any ordinary bar of soap. This one comes from an artist in Washington that forms soap into interesting shapes! The sample we got from him was of an english bulldog head. We agreed to do shoot a free 360 view of his soap, make a video tutorial on how we did the 360 product photography, and then give the soap away for free to a lucky fan on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/imajize. If you’re curious to see how we created this 360 view, check out the video tutorial. Learn and enjoy!

New Stuff: Shopify App, UserVoice, Guided Tour, and More Payment Control

We’ve got some exciting new things to announce at imajize.com today.  What are they?  First, we built an app for Shopify.com and it just got officially approved and published earlier this month.  Next, we now have a place for you to submit new feature requests to us.  We also finished up a fancy guided tour of Imajize for all of our new signups to enjoy. And finally, we added a feature that gives professional photographers the *option* to take over the monthly Imajize payments for their clients.  That’s not a typo – we really did it!
