Q&A with Patrick

How did you get into taking pictures for a living?

I’ve always had a fascination for photography.  When my first daughter was born I took more pictures of her in her first year than most kids have in their lifetime.  Friends and family wanted pictures and it took off from there.

Tell me about your 360º photography studio setup! For starters, what kind of camera do you shoot with?

I have a 4×4 tent in my garage where I put my products in and I have strobes surrounding it.  I use a Canon 5d mark 3 and use a 24-105 lens, macro and 70-200 for my 360s.

What type of products are you particularly good at creating 360º views of? Do you have a specialty?

I specialize in smaller objects, and prefer shoes.

Describe your ideal client for shooting a 360º view.

I don’t have an ideal client because every client I have had is different.  Each client has taught me to diversify myself and get out of my comfort zone.

For 360º photography, do you prefer shooting in high volume or low volume?

Each have their challenge and I enjoy doing both.

What kind of things do you do for fun? You know, outside of work?

I am also a cinematographer and love shooting video.  I love making films and exploring the world of cinematography.

Who are some clients you’ve done work with in the past?

I’ve started out my career in portraits and weddings and have shot over 200 weddings in California, and one in Cabo and Hawaii.

How does your pricing work for 360º product photography?

I have a studio rate of $100/hr but can vary depending on the complexity of project.

What’s a memorable project you’ve worked on in the past?

I once made a documentary for a 5 year old that had stage 4 cancer.  A week after he passed away the film was shown to help support his family through their financial struggles.  Many people contributed to the family after watching the film.

What’s the best way for someone to get in touch with you?

Email, phone, text, tweet, Facebook, put out a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts on your door step and I’ll be there within 15 minutes. I’m just kidding, I don’t have twitter.
